Quality teaching initiatives are rooted in scholarly approaches to teaching and learning, including sound instructional design. Well-designed teaching approaches can be easily transitioned into processes that describe the teaching theory, methodologies implemented, teaching approach and format, and assessment of student learning, among other important elements. Herein, we outline strategies for developing a scholarly approach to teaching and SOTL, and promoting the scholarly process from inception, planning SOTL in the classroom and practice sites, and encouraging the development of scholarly publications.
